North Hempstead's new municipal golf course had its acid test as the venue of a golf outing sponsored by the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce on Monday, July 27. The course was opened to the public on Tuesday, July 28. As a matter of fact, a few golfers who showed up on Sunday, July 26, were permitted to play without an official tee-time as a sort of dress rehearsal. One of those golfers, J. R. Whitely of Port Washington, gave thumbs up to the course and said the back nine was "awesome."

The Chamber of Commerce Outing began about 7 a.m. with a continental breakfast served under the tent to the arriving foursomes. The outing was sold out with 18 foursomes heading for the course at a few minutes after 8 a.m. for a shotgun start.

According to Brian Jennings, who, with Charlie Chesebrough, was co-chairman of the event, it was a major success, both financially for the Chamber of Commerce, and as far as the comments on the new North Hempstead golf course goes.
