Charles E. Schwab, a 40-year resident of Manhasset, died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at St. Francis Hospital. He was 78.
Mr. Schwab joined the Army-Air Force in 1942 and served as a decorated liaison pilot in the Central Pacific during World War II.
A successful entrepreneur, Mr. Schwab began his career in the pharmaceutical packaging industry, first as a sales representative, eventually becoming a co-owner of Colonial Applicator Company, headquartered in Vineland, NJ. He was active in industry associations throughout his career.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Elizabeth (Betty). A member of North Hempstead Country Club for 40 years, he enjoyed golf, traveling, family and friends. Mr. Schwab is also survived by his children, Betty Masone of Manhasset, Jeanne Freeman of Locust Valley, Anne Schwab of Manhasset, Carol Brennan of Amityville and Charles G. Schwab of Scottsdale Arizona and 10 grandchildren. Mr. Schwab was in repose at Fairchild's Funeral Home and is buried at Nassau Knolls Cemetery in Port Washington.
