David Betowski, son of Don Betowski Jr., recently graduated with high honors from Chaparral High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. He will be attending the University of Portland, Oregon where he was honored with the Presidential Scholarship. He is the grandson of Margaret Betowski of Manhasset and the late Don Betowski. Portledge School's 23rd commencement exercises were held on Saturday, June 13. The Slanetz Award, given annually to the senior with the highest academic record, was presented to Melanie Signorile of Manhasset who is headed to the University of Pennsylvania next year. Greg Hess, a junior at Manhasset High School, has been nominated to receive honorary award recognition and to have his biography published in Who's Who Among American High School Students 1997-1998. Greg, an accomplished wrestler and a member of the high school science research program for the last three years, received highest honors from the L.I. Science Congress and first place in the LeaRonal Invitational Science Fair. He will be pursuing internship at Stony Brook over the course of six weeks this summer, working on a Westinghouse research project.
The following Manhasset residents received degrees from Nassau Community College this spring: Bryan Y. Chan, magna cum laude; Christine A. Fiorentino, cum laude; Marianne Hentschel; Diane E. Rainson, summa cum laude; Maryann Rainson, magna cum laude. Joseph E. Bonventre, son of Maria and Joe Bonventre of Flower Hill, received a bachelor of arts degree in political science from New York University on May 14. He also received Dean's List honors for the spring semester. Jeffrey McKee, son of Terence and Angela McKee of Manhasset and a 1994 graduate of St. Mary's High School, graduated from Hofstra University on May 17 with a bachelor of business administration degree. He was also named to the Dean's List. Jeffrey, an accounting major, has secured an auditing position at BDO Seidman. Eleni Michailidis, daughter of Anna and Steve Michailidis of Plandome, graduated from Barnard College on May 19. She is a graduate of Manhasset High School and majored in environmental science at Barnard.
Navy Ensign Caroline G. Rodi, daughter of Richard and Valerie Rodi of Manhasset, recently graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and was commissioned to her present rank in the United States Navy. She is a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead.
