It Rained on Our Parade
The Manhasset American Legion Memorial Day Parade was canceled just before 10 a.m. on May 25 because of a heavy deluge of rain and fear of injury to marchers from lightning, particularly to those carrying flags and banners on metal poles.

Public Can Support New Planting
"This is a unique chance for the public and local businesses to step up and play a direct role in the preservation of Hempstead Harbor," declared North Hempstead Supervisor May Newburger as she announced, on behalf of the Hempstead Harbor Protection Committee, the availability of 2,000 square feet of infant tidal marsh for unofficial sale and adoption. Local residents and businesses can purchase ceremonial deeds for one square foot of marsh at $4 per deed. The committee, made up of representatives of the nine municipalities adjacent to Hempstead Harbor, will be seeding the patch with "spartina alterniflora," salt marsh grass, creating a new tidal wetland to help restore the troubled waterway.

Last Chance to Sign Up for Soccer
June 3 is the last day for Fall registration for boys and girls, grade two through 10, who wish to play Manhasset Soccer Club travel soccer in September. All candidates for roster spots must send in a registration form by that date. Registration forms are available at Phil's Manhasset Sports Shop, 111 Plandome Road, or call 872-4269 for more information., All registrations received after June 3 will be placed on a waiting list for roster berths.
