The Manhasset third grade boys traveling lacrosse team coached by Bill Miller played at undefeated Long Beach this past Sunday. In a hotly contested match against a very disciplined Long Beach squad, the Manhasset team proved victorious 3-2, with some outstanding team effort.
With Long Beach playing tight defense holding a 1-0 lead, the Manhasset team adjusted will, scoring three times in the fourth quarter! Peter Kratsios, Max Trunz and Ryan Young all played "large" as the team battled back. Kevin Young "Mr. Hustle" got to many loose balls and played a strong, two-way game. The attack waited patiently for their opportunities as Matt Marjorana, Chris DeCerbo, Dan Brugal and Teddy Himler looked to take charge.
The big defensive effort turned in by this team was the true story of the game. James McKenna, Matt Wolfe, Chris DeCerbo and Brian Giesecke all played "huge" in front of Fritz Schoenhut, who stopped many Long Beach threats.
The best play of the game, which gave the team the lead, was when Ryan Young won a face-off, dished off to Peter Kratsios, who fed an uncontested Kevin Miller in front. The Manhasset crowd went into a frenzy as Kevin Miller tallied.
Our next game is Sunday, May 31, at 1 p.m. versus Garden City. Be there!
The Manhasset PAL third grade lacrosse team lost a 6-4 heartbreaker to Port Washington on Sunday. Manhasset scored first on a beautiful pass from Duncan Smith to Kyle Gans, who bounced a shot past the Port goalie.
The Manhasset defense, led by D. J. Cisek, James Donohue, Jeff McMillan, Ed Conte and goalie James Petracca, stopped numerous scoring chances and continued to be the backbone of the team.
Trailing 4-2, Manhasset rallied on unassisted goals by Daniel Karges and Jim Wenk to tie the score. The young Indians were denied the go-ahead goal by Kyle Gans because of a controversial off-sides call.
The attack led by Joe Lovas, Colin Quinn and Ryan Guild provided numerous scoring opportunities for the team. Mid-fielders Mark Wilkerson, Danny Mullin and Brian Morrison also had strong games. Despite the loss, it was a great team effort.
