Patricia Gorman of Sands Point died on May 9, 1998. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; her children Kathleen and Michael; children-in-law Joseph MacDonell and Maura Gorman; and by seven grandchildren. She was the daughter of Ellen O'Connor.

Mrs. Gorman was past president of the Visiting Nurses Association and a longtime resident of Manhasset and Sands Point. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of The Fairchild Funeral Chapel in Manhasset. A funeral Mass was celebrated on May 13 at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Manorhaven. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to The United Network of Organ Sharing, 1100 Boulders Parkway, Suite 500, Richmond. VA 23225-8770.

R. Dixon Speas, age 82, died of prostate cancer on May 14, 1998 at his home in Tucson, Arizona. Born in North Carolina on April 14, 1916, where he spent his childhood, Mr. Speas graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1940. After eleven years working for American Airlines in New York, he started his aviation consulting business to which he devoted his time in the furthering of aviation safety until he retired in 1997.

Before moving to Arizona in 1983, Mr. Speas, a resident of Manhasset for over 30 years, was active in the Congregational Church of Manhasset of which he was a member, as well as in community affairs. He was a past president of the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Long Island Association.

Mr. Speas was a fellow of both the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Royal Aeronautical Society, past president of the Wings Club and a trustee of both the College of Aeronautics and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the latter of which bestowed him an honorary doctorate degree in 1995. That year he was inducted into the Arizona Aviation Hall of Fame.

Predeceased by his younger son, Jay Hollingsworth and three brothers, he is survived by his wife, Manette, his son Robert Dixon (Dirk) Jr., and brother Thomas, two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

A private family service will take place in Locust Valley.
