Many residents call the North Hempstead Town Clerk's office requesting handicapped parking stickers. Town Clerk Linda Green and her office do not distribute these stickers. "All residents must call (516) 571-3147, the Nassau County Office for the Physically Challenged, in order to obtain the permit application," states Clerk Green.
Nassau County Legislator Barbara Johnson (D-Port Washington) has announced that nearly two miles of Searingtown Road in Manhasset is scheduled to be resurfaced. The roadwork is part of an $8,975,000 countywide program aimed at resurfacing each county roadway once during a 10 to 20 year cycle. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to resurface more than 100 lane miles each year, which this project is estimated to do.
The county will be reimbursed for the countywide project after completion from a New York State program named CHIPS (Consolidated Highway Improvement Program) if funded. The anticipated minimum reimbursement for the county program is $900,000.
Searingtown Road will be resurfaced from Harrow Lane to Northern Boulevard.
Assemblyman Tom DiNapoli (D-Thomaston) warns consumers that at the present time LILCO customers have no alternate source of electricity available to them. The Assemblyman stated that "many constituents received notices in the mail from ConEdison Solutions, offering a 10 percent savings on their electric costs as an incentive to switch their source of electricity to ConEdison Solutions." The Assemblyman advised constituents to "disregard this mailing as ConEdison Solutions mistakenly sent this offering to LILCO consumers. Although the New York State Public Service Commission has opened the State's electric industry to competition, the competition is available at different times in different utilities' service territories. The date for competition has not yet been set for LILCO consumers.
