Francis V. Padar, commander of the Manhasset Post 304, American Legion, and Richard E. Miller, parade chairman, have announced the line-of-march and schedule for the traditional Manhasset Memorial Day Parade and for the attendant memorial services. All Manhasset residents, their families and friends are invited to join the Legion in this remembrance of the great sacrifice of these American heroes.

In preparation for the Memorial ceremonies, the Legion will place American flags on the graves of veterans in local cemeteries and participate with other Legion Posts to decorate the graves at the Pinelawn National Cemetery. Memorial wreaths will also be placed at five memorial monuments in Manhasset. Plandome Road will be appropriately decorated for the occasion.

A Memorial Service in honor of our war dead will be held on Sunday, May 24, at 11 a.m. at the Manhasset Baptist Church at 626 Plandome Road, Manhasset. All are invited to attend.

On Memorial Day, May 25, the Parade will start promptly at 10 a.m. There are 48 organizations scheduled to march including four bands and more than 35 pieces of fire apparatus and other vehicles.

The route of the parade will be along Plandome Road from Plandome Court to Memorial Place with excellent public viewing along the entire length. Those planning to march in the parade are expected to be present, ready to march, in their designated assembly areas no later than 9:30 a.m.

The First Division, which meets on Plandome Court South, facing west, includes the Nassau County Police Department motorcycle escort, the American Legion: County Commander, Manhasset Post 304 and Auxiliary Unit; the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Manhasset High School Band, Legion vehicles and the Poppy Queen. Included in the first division will be honored guest Virgilio Reyes, who is a survivor of the 1942 Bataan Death March. Post Vice Commander Aram Devejian is the Division Commander.

The Second Division, which assembles on Heights Road, facing west, includes LaSalle Military Academy Band, the Boy Scouts, Troops 71 and 97; the Cub Scouts Packs 3 and 102; the Trail Blazers of the Manhasset Baptist Church; the Manhasset Community Fund; the Manhasset Youth Council; the Manhasset-Great Neck E.O.C., the Young Friends of the Manhasset Library and the Manhasset Baseball League. The Division Commander is William Martin.

The Third Division, which assembles on Plandome Court, facing south, behind the First Division, includes the Inisfada Gaelic Pipe Band; the Girl Scout Daisy Troop 551; Brownie Troops 502, 503, 504, 511, 512, 517, 523, 528, 4078 and 4103; and Junior Troops 508, 518 and 539; Adventures in Learning, the North Shore Nursery School, First Class Pre-School, the Church of Our Saviour Nursery School and the Manhasset Police Athletic League. The Division Commander is Joseph Labella.

The Fourth Division, which meets on Heights Road, facing west, behind the Second Division, includes the Kiwanis Club of Manhasset; the Rotary Club of Manhasset; the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce; the Council of Greater Manhasset Civic Associations; the Tower Foundation; North Riding Chapter NSDAR and the Plandome Fire Department. The Division Commander is John Bjorkman.

The Fifth Division, which forms on Bournedale Road North, facing west (starting at the junction with Plandome Road) includes the Visiting Nurse Association of Long Island; the Manhasset Visiting Nurse Service; Meals-on-Wheels; Guild of St. Francis Hospital; the North Shore Right-to-Life Committee; the Knights of Columbus; Cow Neck Soccer and the U. S. Postal Service. The Division Commander is George Becker.

The Sixth Division, which meets on Summit Drive, facing east, provides the parade climax: the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department and Marching Band, led by the Commissioners of the Fire District.

The parade will terminate in formation at Memorial Field, where a special area will be designated for public viewing of the Memorial Services. The program will start with the National Anthem, played by the Manhasset High School Band under the direction of Randy Knudsen and sung by Legionnaire Robert E. McGuire.

Msgr. John J. Skelly, pastor, Church of St. Mary, Manhasset, will give the Invocation and the Poppy Queen, Miss Julie Hong, will be introduced.

The presentation of floral tributes by the public will follow after which Chaplain Charles J. Schnurr of Post 304 will read the Roll Call of the Honored Dead, accompanied by drummer John S. Hampton of Manhasset High School. Taps will be rendered by Michael Corti and Michael Giuliano, both of Manhasset High School.

Vice Commander Frank Brady will present School Awards to Brian Clemency of Manhasset High School and to Brendan Brady of St. Mary's High School. The Boys' State Scholarship will be awarded to Richard E. Bennett II and Matthew Giovine of Manhasset High School and Christopher Dunnigan and John Kim of St. Mary's High School.

Mrs. Marilyn Furlong, president of the 304 Auxiliary, will preside over the girls' awards. Mrs. Mary McGuire, Auxiliary Americanism Chairlady, will present the School Awards to Miss Stephanie Carlucci of Manhasset High School and Miss Christina Diaz of St. Mary's High School. Mrs. Theresa Bogner, Auxiliary Girls' State Chairlady, will present the Girls' State Scholarship to Miss Julie Hong of Manhasset High School.

After remarks by Commander Padar, Rev. Thomas E. Hammond, Pastor, Church of Our Saviour, Lutheran, of Manhasset, will give the Benediction., To close the Service, Robert E. McGuire, will lead the audience in singing God Bless America accompanied by the Manhasset High School Band.
