Shortly after the article appeared in the Manhasset Press outlining the proposed rules and fees for the Harbor Links Golf Course, I wrote to Supervisor Newburger about mandatory use of golf carts on weekends and holidays. In my opinion, this is unprecedented on a public course built with taxpayer money. It not only goes against the tradition of golf, which is meant to be a walking game, but many people believe their use slows play on public courses.

Certainly anyone who needs or wishes to use a motorized cart should be able to use one at any time the weather permits, but it is wrong to impose that rule on those who wish to walk. To rub salt in the wound, the board, in its wisdom, has decided that the weekend begins on Friday, which means that for more than 40 percent of the time this rule will be in force.

Although the supervisor has not yet seen fit to reply to my comments, I hope the board comes to its senses and rescinds this ridiculous rule before the start of play.
