Manhasset Park District Commissioner Edward Winrow and North Hempstead Town Councilman James O'Connor (R-Carle Place) were among the elected officials in attendance for Opening Day of the Manhasset Baseball League's first season. The league's first game was held on Saturday, April 25 at Memorial Field. Pictured at home plate before the first pitch were, front row, from left to right, Orioles lead-off hitter Patrick Drago, Devil Rays catcher Chris Martin and Devil Rays pitcher Scott Madison. In the second row, from left to right, are Rich Reichert, the league's PAL liaison, Edward Kitt, the league's attorney and one of its sponsors, Orioles Coach Richard Drago, Commissioner Winrow, Jimmy Judge, one of the league's organizers, Devil Rays Coach Jim Torpe, Councilman O'Connor, who threw out the first ball and Gary Kucich, who was also instrumental in getting the league off the ground.
