On Saturday, April 18, the 27th annual Manhasset High School Alumni Game took place, pitting the Blue team represented by odd year graduation dates against the Orange team consisting of players who graduated in even years. The players comprising the Blue team included Kent Eppley, Lester Petracca, Jimmy Kenny, Kevin Kenny, Drew Miller, Mark Donnelly, Jimmy Cardillo, Rich Dunphy, Kenny Weigand, Ward Bitter and Chris Hellman. The Orange team was represented by Dan Denihan, Greg Calderone, Matt Feeney, Jim Blake, Steve McGann, Jim Bauer, Bill Bauer, Neil Brugal, Patrick Miller, Kevin Miller, Spencer Young, Fred Schoenhut, and Doug Melichar.
The game was competitive throughout as the teams went into the fourth quarter all tied up at six goals apiece. Kevin Kenny scored his third goal of the day when he caught a beautiful behind-the-back pass from Mark Donnelly and rifled it past the Orange goalie. Neil Brugal quickly answered, taking a pass from Jim Blake to tie the game. The team traded goals with Kevin Miller scoring for the Orange and Kent Eppley for the Blue. The game's tide was turned as the Blue team's Drew Miller scored three straight goals to put them up for good. Rich Dunphy proved to be a "wall" for the Blue side in the fourth quarter, stopping 10 shots. Final score was the Blue team 11, Orange team 8. Orange team member Matt Feeney commented after the game, "I felt a lot of love out on that lacrosse field and I'm glad to have been a part of such a great tradition."
