North Hempstead Receiver of Taxes Ann M. Galante reminds taxpayers the second half 1997-1998 school tax is payable without penalty through May 11. Property owners should have received a tax notice unless their taxes are paid through a mortgage escrow account.

Any taxpayer who did not receive a bill should contact the receiver of taxes office. Taxpayers should also notify the tax office in writing about ownership or billing address changes and mortgage satisfactions. Correspondence should include the property's section, block and lot information.

The Town of North Hempstead, in conjunction with the North Shore Animal League, will be offering free vaccinations for dogs and cats on Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Town's Animal Shelter. No pre-registration or reservation is necessary and owners from outside North Hempstead are welcome to participate. Dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a carrier to participate. Dogs residing in the Town of North Hempstead must also have a license, and staff of the Town Clerk's office will be present to issue dog licenses to residents (licenses cost $7 to $15 depanding on the age of the dog and other factors).
