The Munsey Park Village budget this year includes anticipated revenues of $163,743 and anticipated appropriations of $1,237,745, leaving $829,002 to be raised by taxation, a decrease of $7,508 from last year. The taxable assessed value listed on the Nassau County Assessment Roll is $12,791,960. Although the figures required for the computation of tax rates were not available from Nassau County on April 8 when the budget hearing was held, it appears that residential properties will see a reduction of seven cents per $100 of assessed value. The tax levy will be discussed at the May 13 meeting of the village's board of trustees.

The Village of Munsey Park held its Annual Meeting on April 8. Mayor Harry Nicolaides reported that the Oath of Office had been taken by the trustees and village justice elected on March 17. Elected were Trustees Vincent J. Syracuse and Peter G. Puttre for two year terms; Trustee Edwin C. Tan for a one year term and Village Justice Lawrence K. Sheridan for a four year term. The mayor and board of trustees serve without compensation.

Mayor Nicolaides then appointed Lenore Regan deputy clerk/court clerk; Anthony S. DiProperzio building inspector; Ackerman, Levine & Cullen village attorneys and Francis J. Coughlin Jr. acting justice. The trustees voted to approve the mayor's appointments. The mayor then appointed Trustee Vincent Syracuse deputy mayor.

The board approved a resolution to reappoint Deborah B. Miller Chairperson of the Board of Zoning Appeals and to reappoint Paul Yakaitis to a fivee-year term on the Board of Zoning Appeals.

The Manhasset Press was designated the official newspaper for the village. Fleet Bank and MBIA Class were designated official depositories.

Dates were set for board meetings for the coming year, all to be held on the second Wednesday of the month. The Board of Zoning Appeals meets on the third Monday of each month, provided there is business to transact.

Responsibilities for the coming year are as follows: Mayor Nicolaides is responsible for personnel and finances and will act as liaison with the police, town, county and schools and the building advisory committee. Dr. Tan is responsible for overseeing fixed assets, snow and ice control and refuse and leaf removal. Trustee Drago is responsible for overseeing roads, sidewalks and gutters, street sweeping and storm sewers. Trustee Puttre acts as liaison with Cable TV and oversees street lights, street signs, street markings, village hall and grounds and equipment specifications. Deputy Mayor Syracuse is responsible for insurance, the Voice of Munsey Park publication, dogs, the tree and shrub committee and parks and grounds.

During the month of March 54 tickets were issued by the police of the 6th Precinct in Munsey Park. Thirty-nine of these were for illegal parking, six for passing stop signs, six for outdated insurance documents and three others for miscellaneous infractions.

The construction going on at Munsey Park School had led to the parking of a number of large vehicles in the area of the school. After lengthy discussion of proposed parking restrictions on Hunt Lane and Abbey Road, Trustee Drago offered the following resolution:

Whereas the Board of Trustees does agree with the recommendation of the Commanding Officer, and

Whereas this hazardous condition has been exacerbated by the construction at the school,

Now, therefore, be it resolved that the following restrictions be adopted:

1) There shall be No Stopping Any Time permitted on the west side of Abbey Road (west) beginning at the northerly curbline of Hunt Lane and proceeding north for a distance of 50 feet.

2) There shall be No Stopping 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. School Days permitted on the west side of Abbey Road beginning at a point 50 feet north of the northerly curbline of Hunt Lane and proceeding north to the southerly curbline of Revere Road.

3) There shall be No Stopping Any Time permitted on the east side of Abbey Road (west) beginning at the northerly curbline and proceeding north for a distance of 50 feet.

4) There shall be No Stopping Any Time permitted on the north side of Hunt Lane beginning at the easterly curbline of Abbey Road (west) and proceeding east for a distance of 50 feet.

The board unanimously approved the resolution.

Village Clerk Karen Navin reported that notification had been received from LILCO advising that they would soon begin the 1998 Tree Trimming Program in and around the village. A meeting on April 8 was attended by Richard Gibney, David Klepeis, Martin Mullarkey of LILCO and representatives of LILCO's contractor, Harder Services. Mr. Klepeis reported that the work proposed for village trees was minimal, and that all present agreed on the scope of the work.

The next regular meeting of the board of trustees will be held at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13.
