In Manhasset, as in most communities, there is always a core of dedicated volunteers who take on the needed jobs. We all know who they are and we also know that if there is a worthy cause, their faces will be in the forefront. The Manhasset Community Fund honored two such leaders, Jane Hone and Brian Vincent, at its dinner dance last month, pictured on page three of today's Manhasset Press. Among the faces on that page are those of other leaders of similar caliber. One always wonders where their replacements will come from when they are no longer available for service. Well, in Manhasset at least, they are emerging in full measure. The group of young women who have begun the Manhasset Coalition Against Breast Cancer is an example of future leaders in our community. They saw a need and didn't look for someone else to respond. They did it themselves. Every weekend now our athletic fields will be filled with young fathers who are coaching the children, boys and girls, in lacrosse and baseball. Speaking of baseball, it's great to see the resurgence of our national sport thanks to one young father in particular. More than 300 boys will participate in the program this summer. Of course in a few weeks the Munsey Park Field will once again be the site of the SCA Fair and we will see scores of young parents hard at work. The Tower Foundation is another local cause that has attracted the next generation of young leaders. We're also delighted to see new leadership for the library emerging, much as we will miss its present leader, Fran Bourguet. So here's to the new young leaders. The future is in good hands.
