The Manhasset Hotshots finally got to play soccer after having their first two games postponed due to field conditions and a snowstorm.

Last Saturday, the Hotshots played the Elmont Jaguars in the first round of the Waldbaum's Cup and handed them a 1-0 loss. Midway through the first period, Colleen Cook fed the ball to Diana Doyle who quickly deposited it in the Elmont goal for the only score of the game. Liz Sagsveen, taking charge in goal, recorded her first shutout of the season.

On Sunday, the Hotshots opened their league schedule, at home, with a 2-0 loss to Center Moriches in a hard fought, physical game complete with a yellow card being issued to the visitors. The level of play by the two teams was much more even than the final score indicated as Center Moriches picked up a cheap goal with two minutes remaining. Despite the loss, the team looked fine in its opening matches as it welcomed back Katie Cook, Liz Giove and Lauren Raggio from the disabled list and Ronli Diakow and veteran sweeper Kathryn Masterson turned in mid season performances.

Next Sunday the Hotshots travel to Center Moriches to try to even the score.
