Retired Vice Chairman of Borden, Inc.
John J. O'Connor died on March 10, 1998 at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, after suffering a stroke. He was 78.
A graduate of Regis High School and City College ('39) in New York, he credited these with introducing him to some of the more interesting people and experiences of a lifetime. He served as a lieutenant on the USS Litchfield during the Second World War and then embarked on a career in international business that would take him to those corners of the world that he did not see during his Navy days. He was one of the pioneer businessmen who traveled throughout the Americas in the late 1940s. In 1949 he joined the Borden Company where he began his career in Brazil. After years of managing the company's international division, he retired as vice chairman of Borden Inc. in 1985.
He is survived by his wife, Marian of Manhasset, a brother, William O'Connor of Westbury, a daughter, Gale Harkins of Weston, CT, a son Rick O'Connor of Dublin, NH and three grandchildren.
Anne Lynch Koster, 76, of Manhasset died peacefully at home on March 7, 1998. She is survived by her husband, Elias M. Koster, a son, Thomas E. Koster, a daughter, Barbara K. Watts, and three grandchildren.
Anne was born in New York City, attended NYU, and was a dental assistant at Guggenheim Clinic. She was associated with Girl Scouts of America for 50 years, as a Scout troop leader in Manhasset, and president of the Nassau County Council. Anne was president of the Friends of the Manhasset Library and a volunteer for the patient library at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn. She was a life-long learner, a student of nature and a volunteer at the Muttontown Preserve, where she taught children an appreciation for nature. Anne was a member of St. Mary's Rosary Society. She died peacefully at home after a long illness.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Manhasset on Tuesday, March 10, 1998. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Manhasset Public Library, attn: public relations, 30 Onderdonk Avenue, Manhasset, NY 11030.
Edna Kahler of Manhasset died on March 13, 1998.
She was predeceased by her husband, Paul. She is survived by her daughters, Ann Lovett and Susan Carboine, her son-in-law, Thomas Lovett, nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by two granddaughters.

Arthur B. Behal of Manhasset died on March 12, 1998.
He was pre-deceased by his wife, Sylvia. He is survived by his son, Arthur, Jr.
