Obituaries
Dr. Salvatore J. Brucato of Manhasset died on Feb. 11, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Grace; his daughter, Barbara and son-in-law, Dr. John Pelletieri; grandchildren Leslie and John; and by his sister Helen Pappalardo. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Fairchild Funeral Chapel of Manhasset. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's R. C. Church in Manhasset with interment following in The Locust Valley Cemetery. MAN varis obit 2/26 dm George A. Varis will be remembered for his love for his family, his humor, wit and his intelligence. He was versatile with many interests. He served in World War II in Guam, South Pacific. He was the Adjutant of the American Legion in Manhasset for 10 years. His monthly letter was noted for its colorful writing. He was the discussion leader for The Great Books at the Manhasset Library. He was a member of REAP in Manhasset, Masonic Lodge of Port Washington, Columbia University Alumni Club, St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Cathedral Retired 55+ Men's Club and St. Paul's Mr. and Mrs. Club. Mr. Varis was a senior nuclear and mechanical power plant engineer at Ebasco Services, Ensearch Corporation and an engineering consultant for Con Edison and Indian Point. In the evening, he taught philosophy at the City College of New York. He received a BA in philosophy from Columbia College of Columbia University and a BME from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in mechanical engineering. He was winner of a four-year NY State War Service Scholarship. In January, he celebrated his 45th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife, Sophia, daughter Stephanie and son, Philip. The service was held at St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Cathedral, West Hempstead, with a military funeral at Calverton Cemetery.
