Village elections will take place in Munsey Park, Flower Hill, Plandome, Plandome Heights and Plandome Manor on Tuesday, March 17, from noon to 9 p.m. Any resident who is registered to vote with the Nassau County Board of Elections can vote in the village election.
The only village with a contested election is Plandome Heights, where a former mayor, Paula Abate, is challenging the incumbent, John Keitz. There are three candidates for three seats on the Plandome Heights board of trustees: incumbents Alan Zaremba and George Ferman, and Edward Breslin. Charles Knuth is not running for re-election.
At Munsey Park's Feb. 11 board meeting, incumbents Vincent Syracuse and Peter Puttre were nominated for the two-year trustee positions they currently hold. Dr. Edwin Tan was nominated for the one-year trustee position to which he was recently appointed and Kevin Sheridan was nominated for the office of village justice, a four-year term.
In Flower Hill, Mayor James Damascus, who was named to fill the unexpired term of Mayor Derrick Rubin, will run for the remainder of the term. Incumbent trustees William Clemency, Norman Glavas and Ann Frankel are running for two-year terms. Tab M. Hauser is running for a one-year term on the board of turstees.
In Plandome two incumbent trustees, Henry Sikorski and Betty Craco, are running for re-election.
In Plandome Manor, incumbent Carl Manganillo is running for a two-year term on the board of trustees as are Eugene A. Petracca Jr. and Adrienne White. Ronald Larocca is running for a four-year term as village justice.
The annual budget vote and election for the Manhasset Public Library will be held in the library's community room on Wednesday, April 8, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. There are two positions on the board of trustees on the ballot; one trustee to succeed Frances Bourguet for a term of five years, to expire on June 30, 2003; one trustee to succeed Carol Ascrizzi for a term of one year, to expire on June 30, 1999. Mrs. Bourguet has decided not to run for another term. Mrs. Ascrizzi is running for the seat Mrs. Bourguet will vacate so her seat, which has one year to run, will be open. Petitions nominating a candidate for these terms of office must be filed with the Business Office of the Manhasset Public Library, 30 Onderdonk Avenue, Manhasset, no later than 5 p.m. on March 9. Petition forms may be obtained from the library director at the library during regular library hours, any day that the library is open. Nominating Petitions must be signed by at least 25 qualified voters.
