In the space of three hours on Tuesday, Dec. 16, there were three serious automobile accidents in Manhasset. The most serious was the last which occurred at 3:35 p.m. on Park Avenue in Munsey Park. Ryan Linn, 14, of Thayer Road had just gotten off the school bus, which was heading East, when he collided with the side of a Toyota driven by a 68-year-old woman from Whitestone. Ryan Linn was taken to North Shore Hospital where he was treated and released. According to bystanders, the bus driver, Adele Trojanek, saved the boy from more serious harm by leaning on the bus' horn and causing him to back up before the car hit him. The driver of the Toyota said that because of the extreme glare of the setting sun, she did not see the flashing lights or the stop sign on the bus.
Twenty minutes before that accident, there was a collision at Northern Boulevard and The Gate when a 1997 Saturn, driven by a 46-year-old woman from Hicksville struck a Land Rover driven by a 33-year-old woman from East Hills. No injuries were reported. The Saturn was towed away and the driver of the Land Rover was able to drive it away from the scene.
Earlier, there was a collision between a 1992 Honda and a 1995 Honda at the intersection of Northern Boulevard and Manhasset Woods Road. The driver of the first car was a 78-year-old woman from Williston Park. The other car was driven by a 27-year-old man from Kew Gardens. Both cars were towed away from the scene.
