Irene Bock

Irene Bock died on Dec. 4, 1997 at the Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset after a long illness. She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Sittner of Manhasset and Debbie Nochella of Great Neck, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services were conducted by Rev. Leslie Hughs of Christ Episcopal Church, Manhasset, at Fairchild Sons, Manhasset on Dec. 6 at 9:30 a.m. Interment followed in the family plot in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn.


Adelaide Brooks

Adelaide E. Brooks (nee O'Neill), formerly of Manhasset, died on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997. She retired from the family business in Great Neck in 1985 and had resided in Calabash, NC, since 1991. She is survived by her husband, John A. Brooks Jr. of Calabash; her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and John Parente, and granddaughter Mia Parente, all of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; and her son and daughter-in-law, John. A. Brooks III and Christine Brooks of Glen Head. Services were private.


Winifred Strauss

Winifred Straus, 89, of Lake Forest, California, passed away peacefully of natural causes at Saddleback Hospital in Laguna Hills on Dec. 9.

Born in New York City on Aug. 29, 1908, she lived in Manhasset for 35 years before moving to California in 1987 following the death of her husband Walter C. Straus who had been chairman and CEO of a national chain store.

She is survived by her son, Larry Straus of Irvine, California and his wife Jeannine, daughter Linda Kearney of Houston, Texas and her husband Charles, four grandchildren, Francine, Walter, Brad and Wayne and three great-grandchildren.
