It's the most perfect time of the year for dressing up your beautiful home. The holiday season affords you the chance to decorate to your heart's content. It also affords you the opportunity to look for and shop for the most unusual items that we find in the stores and antique shops this time of year. We can call these items possible accessories for our home.

Let's go back a little bit. We have covered some of the basics of design such as color, our one item as the beginning point in design, and the uses of your rooms. In the continuity of our designing your home, we have more to cover before we get to accessories, but I'm diverging because of this "decorative" season we are in.

For those of you who are at the point of looking for accessories (and for you who have a long way to go before accessorizing), this time of the year brings out so many unusual and gorgeous gifts that could be the filler for that void--the gold and burgundy fringed tapestry pillow for the corner of your pink moire settee, the lavish Baroque frame that will become a beautiful mirror for your entry, those French Redoute prints of roses for the wall climbing your hall staircase. Also consider a blue-and-white porcelain vase that can be transformed into a lamp for the burl wood commode in the living room.

There are so many opportunities at this time of the year to come upon the perfect piece for"that spot" in your home. So as you do your holiday shopping, keep on the lookout for a possible accessory for your home. It must be the perfect item as your accessories are a reflection of you--your likes, your colors, your style.

Secondly, this season of gift giving affords you the chance to give or ask for something for the house instead of personal gifts. What better time to find that beautiful rosewood baby grand piano for that bare corner in the living room--or the country French painted armoire to house the TV in your newly constructed family room--or that brass six-arm chandelier for over your beveled-edge glass-top dining room table.

There are so many beautiful and possible accessories out there for your home right now. In your busy shopping schedule, take a few minutes to browse for an item that's just perfect for that perfect home of yours.
