New England Contradance

The Long Island Traditional Music Association (LITMA) sponsors an evening of New England Contradancing in the parish house of Christ Episcopal Church, 1355 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset from 7:45 p.m. to 11 p.m. Admission: $9 adults ($7 LITMA members, $8 seniors); children half price, ages 7-14; under 7, free. Parent Workshop

North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center, Long Island's leading children's mental health center, will continue its regular fall series of "Family Matters" parent workshops on Tuesday evenings, Jan. 13 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. The top for this special two-part workshop will be "Children and Anxiety." These workshops will discuss stress, the demands we place on our children and on ourselves, and the consequences to our families. The fee for this workshop is $15 per person/per workshop ($20 per couple/per workshop). Call Sandy Wolkoff at 626-1971 for information on schedules and directions to the Center.

Ongoing Programs

Free Treatment for High Blood Pressure and High Cholesterol

Women and men with high cholesterol or high blood pressure are invited to participate in Long Island Jewish Medical Center's (LIJ) studies of new medications. Cholesterol study patients must be 21 and over. High blood pressure patients must be 65 or older. Volunteers will earn $300 for completing the studies. Eligible patients receive free medical examinations by a board certified physician including electrocardiograms and blood tests. Cholesterol monitoring and dietitian available to help reduce cholesterol levels. The programs are based at Manhasset Ambulatory Pavilion on Northern Boulevard. Story Time

Barnes & Noble in Manhasset holds Children's Storytime every Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. and Bedtime Stories every Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. Storytime for the Intermediate Child (5-8) is held on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. (No drop-offs for Story Times)

Career Counseling

Appointments for career counseling at the Manhasset Public Library on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. and one Saturday a month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. may be made by calling the library at 627-2300. Appointments are limited to Manhasset residents.

Widows' Support Group

Widows' Support Group meets at Womanspace, 3 St. Paul's Place, Great Neck on Wednesday early evenings, from 5 until 6:30 p.m. For further information you can call Womanspace at 829-6566 or 621-0277.

Falaise Mansion Tours

Falaise, the Normandy style Gold Coast mansion overlooking Long Island Sound, on the Sands Point Preserve is open to the public for the 1997 season. Guided tours are available every 45 minutes Wednesday to Sunday from noon - 3:30 p.m. (No children under 10 years old.) The Sands Point Preserve is located on Middle Neck Road in Sands Point. Sands-Willets House Tours

The National Register Sands-Willets House, headquarters of the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society at 336 Port Washington Boulevard is open for guided tours of its 10 fully furnished rooms on Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. The house will also be open for tours by appointment only. An admission fee of $2 per adult helps the society maintain the 1753 house, its 1600s Dutch barn and the grounds on which they stand. For further information call 365-9074. The National Register Sands-Willets House is owned and operated by the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society founded in 1962 to protect the historic buildings and grounds of the Cow Neck Peninsula and to preserve its history through the books which the society publishes and the exhibits/programs which it presents.

Manhasset Art Association

The Manhasset Art Association, MAA, has ongoing displays of art works at both the Dime Savings Bank and EAB in Manhasset. The exhibits change monthly.

Day and evening workshops are held on Wednesdays at the Quaker Meeting House. The times are 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. For information on the day workshops, call 333-8271, and for the evening workshops, call 944-8090.

Teen Helpline

If you need to talk to someone who cares, call Tel-A-Teen at 254-BE-OK, Monday through Saturday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tel-A-Teen is a youth phone center answered by teen "sharers" under the supervision of an adult.

Look Good, Feel Better

"Look Good...Feel Better" is a program sponsored by the American Cancer Society for women who are undergoing or are about to undergo cancer treatment. At North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, licensed cosmetologists will help the patients improve their appearance and self-image by showing them hands-on beauty techniques to overcome any possible appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy or radiation treatment. There is no charge for the program, but registration is required. 6 to 8 p.m. Call the American Cancer Society at 436-7070.

Nassau County Art Museum

The Nassau County Art Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Mondays.

The museum offers docent-led tours for individuals or families every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Each tour can accommodate up to 20 people. No reservations are required, but spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The tours are free with paid admission.

The museum also welcomes group tours from schools, camps or other community groups. Reservations for these tours must be made in advance. For prices and information, call 484-9338.

Raynham Hall Museum

Raynham Hall Museum is open for visitors from Tuesday to Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for seniors. The gift shop has items for holiday giving. The museum is located at 20 West Main Street, Oyster Bay. Call 922-6808 for information.

Youth Nature Walks

The Alley Pond Environmental Center holds nature walks, discussions and art and craft classes for children between the ages of 3 and 5 years throughout the summer. The center is located at 228-06 Northern Boulevard, Douglaston. For information call (718) 229-4000.
