The 2009-2010 Nassau County Girls Basketball season started with the Lady Dragons of Division Avenue High School ranked third in conference ABC-1. Nassau County separates girls basketball into ability based conferences, going from the stronger teams in conference one to the weakest teams in conference five. This means that girls at Division Avenue were scheduled to play the six best teams in their class.
Wisdom Lane would like to congratulate seventh-grade student Taylor Traenkle for being selected to play for the 12-year-old Junior Islander Hockey Team.
Taylor’s team played in a ten-day, three-city tournament in China where the team went 4-1. The team won the Charles B. Wang Project Hope Invitational Tournament. Taylor had nine goals and five assists in the five games.
His coach, former Islander Benoit Hogue, chose him to accept the championship trophy on behalf of his team.
In February, Taylor and his team will travel to Quebec, Canada to play in the Pee Wee Hockey World Championships, which is comprised of teams from all over the world. On Feb. 9, the Junior Islander team will be playing against team Switzerland before the New York Islander game. If you would like to follow the team’s progress, go to newyorkislanders.com.
The Island Trees Girls Varsity Basketball team had another successful week. The girls won two more games improving their record to 5-2 in conference. The Lady Dawgs are currently tied for first place.
The MacArthur Generals wrestling team competed against Garden City on Wednesday, Jan. 13, winning the match 44 to 24. MacArthur’s number-one ranked Adam Troy pinned Garden City’s Frank McGoldrick.

Levittown PAL wrestlers recently participated in the Seventh Annual Massapequa Youth Tournament, which was just renamed this year, the Al Bevilacqua Annual Youth Tournament.
After digging itself a hole in the Conference AA-II standings, the MacArthur boys’ varsity basketball team started clawing its way back into playoff contention with a 54-44 win against Long Beach on Monday, Jan. 11.
The Division Avenue Boys Basketball Team won their first league game over Wantagh 49-41 on Tuesday, Jan. 5.
The MacArthur High School wrestling team has started off the 2009-2010 season on the right foot and is currently ranked number five in New York State.

The MacArthur Varsity Cheerleaders have plenty to cheer about. As a competitive team, the girls excelled this year, placing in the top three of the Long Island Cheerleading Finals. In the MacArthur classrooms, the cheerleaders maintained a combined team grade point average of 88.1.
