The Levittown/Island Trees Ice Falcons hockey team was successful in defending their championship recently in the High School Hockey League of Nassau County Varsity Liberty Division. After winning the division with an impressive season record of 16-1-3, the Ice Falcons met Oceanside in the playoffs.
While most girls’ basketball teams in Nassau County were off for the February break, the Lady Dragons of Division Avenue High School were hard at work preparing for the playoffs.
Island Trees High School’s Girls JV Basketball team had a very successful season going undefeated in league play.
The girls MacArthur Track and Field team is looking stronger than ever in their 2009-2010 season. In the field at their first meet of the year, Kelly Clifford broke two school records. In the triple jump she broke the year-old record by jumping 34 feet, seven and a half inches and broke the 10-year-old record for the high jump by jumping five feet, two inches.
Principal John Bifolco, Physical Education Department Chairperson Gerard McEneaney, and Coach James SanFilippo proudly announce that the following student athletes have qualified for the prestigious Eastern States Track and Field meet, which will be held at the New York City Armory on Feb. 23.
The seventh grade boys basketball team finished an undefeated season winning all 11 of their games. Season highlights included the defeat of an extremely talented Berner Middle School Team by a score of 45-44. Brandon Kustek had a game high and season high 20 points.
The MacArthur boys’ basketball team honored its five seniors Monday. Then the Generals posted a 38-34 win against Massapequa in their final home game of the 2009-2010 season.
The MacArthur Lady Generals Junior Varsity Basketball Team is in the midst of another great season, currently holding an overall record of 11-1 going into the midterm break. While the Generals are studying hard for their tests and focusing on the “student” part of student-athlete, they are also working hard on the court in practices, eager to finish out a successful season by winning their last four games.
The Island Trees Varsity Football team had a successful 2009 season. The Bulldogs compiled a record of 5-3, earning them a top-four playoff seed. For the first time since the 1960s, the football team would host a first round playoff game against the Floral Park Knights. Although the Bulldogs lost in overtime, 27-24, the players never gave up and left everything they had on the field. As coaches, we could not ask for anything more. The players were disappointed, especially the seniors, but this year’s team helped put Island Trees Football back on the map.
