The Island Trees Soccer Club will be hosting the 30th Annual Memorial Day Festival Saturday May 29. Every player receives a trophy and no standings will be kept. This festival is open to intramural teams only.

The Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums will host its first annual Mixed Couples Twilight Golf Tournament at its four nine-hole courses in June and July.
The tournament, consisting of four-person “scramble” teams, will accommodate two couples signing up as a four-person team; a couple that will be paired with another couple by the tournament committee; or individuals paired with other individual players to form teams. The tournament begins at 4 p.m. shotgun (3 p.m. check-in) and includes a barbecue and awards ceremony from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants must be Nassau County residents to sign up (a Leisure Pass is also required).

The five-week season, one hour per week curriculum will consist of the following:
Week #1: Introduction to full swing irons fundamentals
Week #2: Introduction to full swing wood fundamentals
Week #3: Introduction to putting fundamentals
Week #4: Introduction to chipping fundamentals
Week #5: Review of full swing. Also covers etiquette, rules, team building and more. Program held at the Gold Coast Golf Center, One South Woods Road, Woodbury.
A 25-year-old Levittowner and speedster, Jodie Schoppman was a convincing repeat winner in the women’s division in the 33rd annual Nationwide 10K Run for ASPIRE held on the roads of Plainview and Old Bethpage on March 27. Schoppmann’s winning time of 36 minutes, 33 seconds was 31 seconds faster than her winning time of 37:04 in 2009.
Levittown Soccer Club registration is now open for the fall 2010/spring 2011 season. Registration is open for the snoopy/intramural/interleague and soccer stars programs. Please note that snoopy players must turn 3 years old before August 1 to be eligible.
On Tuesday March 23 the Nassau County Coaches Association held its annual girls’ basketball awards dinner at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. The girls of Division Avenue High School came away as the big winners of the night! The Lady Dragons were recognized as Nassau County Class “A” Champions, Long Island Champions, and NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Team.
On Jan. 24 the MacArthur Girls Track and Field team won their conference meet for the fifth time in a row. This meet was held at the new indoor track at St. Anthony’s High School, where the girls scored 210 points, which was a school record, and scored in all events except for three.
On Friday, March 12 the Division Avenue Girls Varsity Basketball Team captured the Long Island Championship with a 57-51 victory over Harborfields High School, at SUNY Farmingdale. Taylor Malings once again led the Lady Dragons with 14 points and seven assists. Julie Ballantyne and Kristen Stuart combined for 25 points, 18 rebounds, 10 steals and six blocked shots.
The Cantiague Park Senior Men’s Golf League had a beautiful day to start its golf season. After all the rain and high winds from last week, it was good to be out there on a sunny day. They had 35 golfers and the scores were about average, some good and some not so good.
