After receiving a pacemaker four years ago, Levittown senior and retired NYPD officer Danny Kaye participated in the first annual Senior Softball All-Star Game.
The “Cardios versus Orthos” all star game sponsored by the Bristal Assisted living community featured players over the age of 70 who underwent heart related surgeries against those whose lives were improved following orthopedic operations such as knee or hip replacements. The Orthos defeated the Cardios, 9-7.
Mindy Davidson of Seaford, a member of team Runner’s Edge and PowerBar Team Elite, recently won third place in her age division at the Montauk Lighthouse Sprint Triathlon. The Island Trees Athletes Helping Athletes (AHA) had a busy school year in 2010-11. In addition to their annual training and mentoring program they provided additional services to our schools and some local organizations.
Some of the year’s highlights include: visiting a local home for aging people during the holiday season bringing gifts and warm smiles; raising money for (WIN,) holding a fund raising AHA tournament for a local family; supervising and running activities for three different Field Days; participating in Team Adventure Day at Stokes, Dr. Seuss Field Day at Sparke, and 5th Grade Field Day at the Middle School.
Imagine what it would be like to have brand new baseball and basketball scoreboards at high schools all over Long Island without the need for taxpayer dollars to fund it.
Wantagh residents Michael and Sheri Anspach are striving to make that dream a reality, as the couple recently obtained the franchising rights to Sports Image Inc, a youth athletics marketing company based out of Ohio. The Anspachs have joined 12 other existing franchises in nine different states awarded by the company in just its first two years of franchising.
For the second year in a row, the newly formed Blue Dragon Football Alumni has presented scholarships to deserving Levittown Division Athletes.
This year’s award winners were Basketball and All State Track standout Kristen Stuart and All County Football, Wrestling and member of the Long Island Championship Baseball team, Robert McNamara. Each athlete received $1,000 from the Football Alumni Scholarship Fund.
All the talk of a new arena for the New York Islanders has been the crux of the discussions of revamping Nassau County’s Hub in Uniondale. However, the other piece of the puzzle just started to come together on Monday, June 11.
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced on July 11 that the county selected an RFP (request-for-proposal) from Long Island Ducks owner Frank Boulton of the independent Atlantic League to bring a Minor League Baseball team to Nassau County. This agreement with the Central Islip-based team is contingent upon a $400 million bond referendum passing before voters Aug. 1.
The Levittown Lightning girls U6 soccer team took third place in the Plainedge Soccer 2011 Father’s Day Tournament. With incredible goalkeeping, awesome defense and a relentless offensive attack the girls showed their great soccer skills and terrific team play. The players are Emma, Gianna, Shannon, Athena, Blayke, Ava, Shae, Hallie and Madison. Coach Tom and Coach Joe would like to thank all the parents for their support.
