Cosentino Joins Keene State Lacrosse Coaching Staff

Bill Cosentino has recently joined the Keene State College (KSC) mens lacrosse coaching staff in New Hampshire, assuming the position of defensive coordinator with the team.

“I am absolutely thrilled about being able to coach at the college level,” said Cosentino. “I’m really looking forward to working with players who are experienced, eager to learn the game, and will devote themselves to the program.”  

 

Lindsay Montemarano Commits To University Of Michigan

Seaford senior Lindsay Montemarano has signed a national letter of intent to play softball at her dream school – the University of Michigan — next year. The athlete, who has played the sport with intensity since she was nine years old, will now set her sights on winning for the Wolverines and studying kinesiology, sports management or another major that will lead to a coaching career at the university or high school level.

“Lindsay is the epitome of a scholar-athlete,” said Tom Condon, Seaford’s director of athletics. “She is committed to being the best she can be; she makes all of us proud; she’s a true example of Seaford Pride.”

 

Lady Dragons Girls Soccer Awarded For Achievements

The Lady Dragons girls soccer team of Division Avenue High School are the recipients of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s Scholar-Athlete Team Award for having maintained a collective team grade point average of 93 percent.

During the Nassau County Coaches Association’s annual dinner on Nov. 26, five team members were also presented with the following awards for their achievements on and off the field:

Erica Bleimeyer – All-Conference

Alyssa Fiore – All-Class and County Scholar-Athlete Team

Taylor LeBright – All-Class

Alexa Schneider – All-County

Ariana Weingrad – All-Class    

The girls soccer team finished the regular season in sixth place in County Conference A1. This was good enough for the Lady Dragons to be seeded sixth out of 16 Class A teams.

 

MacArthur Boys Varsity Basketball Preview

The MacArthur boys’ varsity basketball team tips off its 2012-13 season against rival Division High School on Thursday, Dec. 6, in the opening round of the annual Jeff Shaw Memorial Tournament. The tournament’s opening round also features a first-round matchup between Massapequa and Valley Stream North. The championship and consolation games will be held at MacArthur on Dec. 7.

The Generals return six members from last season’s squad, which qualified for the playoffs for the fourth time in the past six years: guards Gerard Cunningham, Tom McAndrew, Brendan Smith and Ryan Walsh and forwards Kevin Olsen and Andrew Seniuk.

 

Division Ave. Lady Dragons Qualify For Playoffs

The Division Avenue Girls’ Soccer Team finished the regular season in sixth place in county conference A1. This was good enough for the Lady Dragons to be seeded 6th out of 16th “A” classification teams.

In the first round of the playoffs Division beat Manhasset 2-1 in triple overtime on a goal from Ariana Wiengrad. Gina Fader made 12 saves, two of which came on breakaways. Outstanding defense was turned in by Kim Beattie, Taylor LeBright, Krysten Garcia, Grace Ginther, and Felicia Comuniello.

Seahawks Claim Victory For Ally

The eighth-grade girls soccer team at Salk Middle School raised over $1,000 for tuberous sclerosis research and support. The team was motivated to raise these funds through their friendship with Ally Spear, 10, who was diagnosed with this genetic disorder. 

 

Local Golf Pros Share Their Love Of The Sport

Charlie Grego, PGA, the assistant professional at the Garden City Golf Club (GCGC), spent his evening off instructing Bigs and Littles from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island (BBBSLI) on August 27 at Eisenhower Park Driving Range.

In fact, he planned and hosted the evening of golf instruction with the generous assistance of members of GCGC. Charlie secured a donation from Greg Burke of Lane Office Dirtt Knoll to purchase collared shirts for all participants, worked with Al Vanasco to obtain a permit to reserve stalls at the driving range and borrowed six sets of junior golf clubs with the assistance of Ron Furman. Additionally, Charlie enlisted the help of fellow golf professionals Matt Lavolsi, assistant professional/PGA apprentice of Cherry Valley Club and J.R Repetti, outside operations of GCGC to provide instruction for the 12 Bigs and Littles from BBBSLI.

 

Winter, Spring PAL Programs Registration

The Levittown PAL registration for seasonal programs will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 13 and Thursday, Nov. 15 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All participants must register at the Levittown PAL office at 64 Division Avenue, Suite 101.
This year’s programs will include: lacrosse, tennis, wrestling, and basketball. Some programs offer travel league options.
