Liam Siegler is a seventh-grader who attends the Island Trees Middle School. Siegler is a top-notch student, who is also an amazing athlete and person. He has been named by the FBU (Football University) as one of the United States best seventh-eighth grade football players. 


Another Great Year For Island Trees Music And Sport Camps

The Island Trees School District would like to thank Kevin Regan and the Levittown Youth Council for supporting the Island Trees Summer Camp programs. Both the music and sports programs had another successful year providing our children the opportunity to participate, learn and have fun. All programs are instructed and supervised by Island Trees coaches, teachers, alumni and high school students. 

The camps provided a variety of sessions to pick from. When all was said and done, there were close to 500 registered campers, which generated a profit of close to $5,000, all donated to Island Trees School District.  


LI Lizards Donate $5K For Hurricane Sandy Relief

The Long Island Lizards would like to thank all the Nassau and Suffolk participants who came out for the Hurricane Sandy Relief Clinic recently. Thanks to the participation of nearly 100 students, and the sponsorship of the event by Atlantic Hyundai, the Lizards will be making a $5,000 donation to the Hurricane Sandy Long Island Disaster Relief fund. 

Lizards head coach Joe Spallina, along with players Tommy Palasek, Michael Skudin and Chris Passavia, helped to lead students of all ages and skill levels through a variety of stations, focusing on different fundamental lacrosse skills. Members of the Stony Brook womens lacrosse team also came out to lend a hand to the young girls at the clinic.


Cosentino Joins Keene State Lacrosse Coaching Staff

Bill Cosentino has recently joined the Keene State College (KSC) mens lacrosse coaching staff in New Hampshire, assuming the position of defensive coordinator with the team.

“I am absolutely thrilled about being able to coach at the college level,” said Cosentino. “I’m really looking forward to working with players who are experienced, eager to learn the game, and will devote themselves to the program.”  


Lindsay Montemarano Commits To University Of Michigan

Seaford senior Lindsay Montemarano has signed a national letter of intent to play softball at her dream school – the University of Michigan — next year. The athlete, who has played the sport with intensity since she was nine years old, will now set her sights on winning for the Wolverines and studying kinesiology, sports management or another major that will lead to a coaching career at the university or high school level.

“Lindsay is the epitome of a scholar-athlete,” said Tom Condon, Seaford’s director of athletics. “She is committed to being the best she can be; she makes all of us proud; she’s a true example of Seaford Pride.”


Lady Dragons Girls Soccer Awarded For Achievements

The Lady Dragons girls soccer team of Division Avenue High School are the recipients of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s Scholar-Athlete Team Award for having maintained a collective team grade point average of 93 percent.

During the Nassau County Coaches Association’s annual dinner on Nov. 26, five team members were also presented with the following awards for their achievements on and off the field:

Erica Bleimeyer – All-Conference

Alyssa Fiore – All-Class and County Scholar-Athlete Team

Taylor LeBright – All-Class

Alexa Schneider – All-County

Ariana Weingrad – All-Class    

The girls soccer team finished the regular season in sixth place in County Conference A1. This was good enough for the Lady Dragons to be seeded sixth out of 16 Class A teams.


MacArthur Boys Varsity Basketball Preview

The MacArthur boys’ varsity basketball team tips off its 2012-13 season against rival Division High School on Thursday, Dec. 6, in the opening round of the annual Jeff Shaw Memorial Tournament. The tournament’s opening round also features a first-round matchup between Massapequa and Valley Stream North. The championship and consolation games will be held at MacArthur on Dec. 7.

The Generals return six members from last season’s squad, which qualified for the playoffs for the fourth time in the past six years: guards Gerard Cunningham, Tom McAndrew, Brendan Smith and Ryan Walsh and forwards Kevin Olsen and Andrew Seniuk.


Division Ave. Lady Dragons Qualify For Playoffs

The Division Avenue Girls’ Soccer Team finished the regular season in sixth place in county conference A1. This was good enough for the Lady Dragons to be seeded 6th out of 16th “A” classification teams.

In the first round of the playoffs Division beat Manhasset 2-1 in triple overtime on a goal from Ariana Wiengrad. Gina Fader made 12 saves, two of which came on breakaways. Outstanding defense was turned in by Kim Beattie, Taylor LeBright, Krysten Garcia, Grace Ginther, and Felicia Comuniello.
