Junior Anthony Semonella (pictured) won his first varsity start by throwing a complete game against undefeated New Hyde Park allowing only five hits while striking out five. Sophomore Joe Spitaleri went two for two with a run scored. Senior Brett McBride’s run-scoring single in the second inning gave Division a 2-0 lead. With this win, the Dragons are currently in first place in League A 2.

Wrestlers from across the county recently competed in the 2012 Nassau County Section 8 - D1 Wrestling Championships at Hofstra University. Division Avenue, Island Trees and MacArthur High School wrestlers brought home some of the top honors in the competition. MacArthur’s Justin Cooksey was named the 2011-12 champion.
More than two dozen varsity track teams from across Long Island, including each of the three Levittown-based squads, participated in the third annual MacArthur Generals Track and Field Invitational on March 31 at MacArthur High School.
Despite a rain-soaked track, and frigid, winter-like conditions, MacArthur, Island Trees and Division Ave. athletes competed in various field events that included the long jump, triple jump, pole vault, high jump, shot put, discus, and various running competitions.

Wantagh High School recently took first place in the 2012 Nassau County Section 8 - D1 Wrestling Championships held at Hofstra University. Wantagh scored 254.5, placing first over Long Beach (189.5) and MacArthur (141.5).
MacArthur High School is proud to announce that five senior members of the nation’s top-ranked soccer team have signed National Letters of Intent to play Division I and Division III soccer this coming fall. This is quite an honor, as only approximately 2 percent of high school athletes nationwide are offered the opportunity to sign National Letters of Intent with colleges and universities. Congratulations to the following students:
Sophomore Justin Cooksey had a second place finish at the New York State Wrestling Championships on Feb. 25. Cooksey won his first three matches to earn a berth in the New York State Finals at the 106 lbs. weight class. Cooksey finished his season with 43 wins and four losses, the Nassau County 106 lbs.
Senior Joe Cataldo also earned a wild-card spot to this year’s 2012 New York State Wrestling Championships as well. Cataldo’s outstanding season along with being a two-time finalist at the Nassau County Tournament earned him a spot on this year’s Nassau County Wrestling team. He joined teammate Cooksey in Albany where both helped the Nassau team finish in second place in the team results at the NYS Championships.
Senior Lenny Martinez of Division Avenue High School will play baseball at Eastern College in Pennsylvania next season. Martinez is a two-year starter at second base for the Blue Dragons. As a junior he was a key member of the 2011 Long Island Championship team. Martinez plans on majoring in physical education.
Whitney Sun and Lauren Darling recently qualified for the Metropolitan Swimming Junior Olympics that were held in West Nyack. The athletes competed for their club team Long Island Aquatic Club during the three-day competition.
The Division Avenue High School Wrestling Team returned from the 2012 Oneonta Tournament securing second place behind Burnt Hills. Fourteen schools participated in the tournament, each with only one wrestler per weight class. Division entered 12 competitors (out of 15 weight classes) and 11 of them placed.
The MacArthur Boys Track and Field team competed in the Conference 2 Championship meet on Jan. 19. The boys placed fourth overall, missing third by a mere two points.
Conference Champions permeated the team, the 4x200m relay (Erik Chevez, Andrei Dinoro, Dylan Pearce, Dylan Zangrillo), Jordan Kohlman in the Pole Vault, Andrei D. in the 55 meters (who set a new school record) and finished second in the 300m to his teammate, and Chevez in the 300 meters all won their respective events scoring points for the team.
