On Thursday, Dec. 15 the Division Avenue High School PTA sponsored a bookfair at the Barnes & Noble of Carle Place.
The DAHS Varsity Football players treated child patrons to storytelling in the store’s children’s section. The school’s Jazz Band performed on the store’s mezzanine, a real treat to browsing patrons. Aside from the music, a group of seniors relaxed in the café area of the store, while working on a poetry assignment. Some elementary students participated in a store scavenger hunt. Always a crowd favorite, School Principal Dr. Francesco Ianni served pastries and desserts to customers in the café.
“Staff and customers at Barnes & Noble gave high compliments to our chorus and musicians,” PTA Co-President Lisa Curran said. “We don’t have the final figures yet, but it looks like we earned three times what we earned last year.” The event organizers were thrilled with the turnout and response from the school community.
One customer was so impressed with the performance, she asked where she might hear the group sing again.
PTA President Esta Lachow greeted shoppers at the door to introduce them to the night’s incentive program for the school. Barnes & Noble offered a percentage of the sales to the school, if customers were wearing their “red sticker,” identifying that they were shopping in support of the school.
