The Dragons’ Spring Track and Field team had an impressive post-season finish to their season this year. Fourteen of their athletes qualified for the County Championship meet. Top finishers for the Dragons at the County Championship meet were Ryan Billian (first place and County Champion in the 110 hurdles), Kristen Stuart (second place and All-County in the 400 hurdles), and Tyler Mack (third place and All-County in the 3000m steeplechase.) Juniors Jennifer Addamo and Joanna Capitelli competed in the 400 hurdles, along with freshmen Nicole Connolly and Chelsea Moran in the 2000 steeplechase. The Dragons also qualified a boy’s 4x100 and 4x800 relay along with a girl’s 4x800 relay. For the field events, Ryan Billian, Chris Bradley, and Tim Schweitzer competed in the triple jump.
At the state qualifier meet, Stuart ran the 400 hurdles in 64.64 seconds qualifying for the State Championship meet in Caledonia. Stuart is the first athlete to qualify for the state championship meet from Division in recent memory. Going into the state meet on day one, Stuart was ranked 10th out of the eighteen 400 hurdlers in the meet and knew she needed a personal best to make it to the finals on day two. On day one Stuart ran a time of 62.84 seconds, almost two seconds faster than her personal best. This was the third fastest time of the day advancing Stuart into the finals on day two. In the federation finals Stuart had a smooth start and was in 5th place after the first 300 meters. With one hundred meters to go Stuart dug deep and legged out a personal best time of 61.91 seconds capturing second place and earning an All State title.
Stuart had an amazing end to her track and field season at Division and will graduate with six school records along with All Division, All County, County Champion, and All State titles. Next year she will be attending Fordham University on a track and field scholarship where she will continue her track and field career.
