Freshman midfielder J.T. Famularo of Levittown scored the lone goal of the game in the 109th minute to give the Farmingdale State men’s soccer team a double-overtime victory over the Potsdam State Bears. The Rams improved to 1-4 overall, while the Bears dropped to 2-2.
Potsdam controlled the first half with an 8-4 shot advantage, while Farmingdale controlled the second half with the 8-4 shot advantage, forcing sudden death overtime period.
In the first overtime, Potsdam took two shots with a save from Rams senior goalkeeper Ricky Meschkow of Plainview, while Farmingdale’s offense was able to get one shot on in another scoreless period.
Famularo’s goal came at 108:59 as the Rams marched down the field and he took the shot from the left side into the bottom right corner. This marked his first career collegiate goal.
Meschkow finished with eight saves for the game, while Potsdam’s senior goalkeeper made eight saves in defeat. The Rams were scheduled to host Yeshiva University on Wednesday, Sept. 12 in a Skyline Conference game.

Island Trees Union Free School District faces a few hurdles in its upcoming 2013-14 budget. The loss of the BOCES Geneva N. Gallow building lease and the increasing mandated retirement system (TRS/ERS) adds up to $2 million in lost revenue. The TRS/ERS contributions increased by almost $1.4 million, and the Gallow lease loss totals approximately $500,000, including the utility costs.

From jewelry and dolls to sports memorabilia and computers, a collector’s interests can range from the most bizarre items to the most common. Michael Katz, longtime collector of vintage radios from the 1920s to ’50s, said that the two kinds of things collectors go for are “stuff that’s really unusual and really decorative or the rare and expensive sets.”

The Lady Generals lacrosse team at MacArthur High School earned the #1 spot and the title of 2013 conference champions, an accomplishment that last occurred in 2006. The team finished with a conference record of 9-1, succumbing in their only game to Oyster Bay by a one-goal deficit.
