Adam Wurtzel's lifelong dream has finally come true. After winning a competition in Philadelphia, he will be guest hosting GSN Live on the Game Show Network Friday, April 24.
Wurtzel, a Levittowner, said he first realized his dream to become a game show host when he was 3 years old.
"I'd watch shows like Scrabble and pretend to be Chuck Woolery," he said. "It got more serious in college when I created and hosted my own game show, Eastern Expedition, which still goes on to this day with a new host and producer."
Following his dream, Wurtzel got a job as audience coordinator for CBS' The Early Show after graduating from a Connecticut College.
"I have fun working behind the camera, I'm interested in working on the creative side of things, but being a host is my first love," he said.
A 2003 Division Avenue grad, Wurtzel said teachers would allow him to "do classroom game shows using material from their classes."
"I'd create formats and actually have teachers involved," he added.
His parents, also Levittowners, have always supported his goal.
"They knew I wanted to do this, probably before I knew," he quipped.
Citing Card Sharks as his favorite game show of all time, Wurtzel said it had a simple format and is easy to watch.
The show he's hosting, GSN Live, is like a 'show within a show.'
"During commercial breaks of classic game shows, I'll be hosting games with folks who can call in and win money and prizes at home," he added.
When asked how he'll add his signature sign-off to the role, Wurtzel said he'll probably use the same one used in college.
"I loved the fact that everyone in England says the word 'Cheers' all the time," he added. "It means thanks, and at the end of Eastern Expedition, I always said 'Cheers everybody!' I'll probably stick with that in some form."
Wurtzel is heading out to Los Angeles April 23 to begin filming. To watch Wurtzel guest host on April 24, tune in from noon to 6 p.m. on GSN Live on Channel 88 on Cablevision and Verizon Fios Channel 184.
