"It is important that taxpayers know that the library budget is separate from the school budget," a press release from the Library Board of Trustees states. "Your library tax dollars enables the library to offer new books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, newspapers, online databases and programs to residents. The library budget also provides the funds for references, adult, teen and children's services, along with Senior Connections, homebound and hospice services."
The proposed budget includes a $139,000 surplus, which will offset the total expenditure increases. This includes a $238,063 increase in personnel, a $3,000 increase in library materials, and a $10,000 increase in operations.
The library currently offers 68 hours of service per week with four additional hours on Sundays from October to May, 218,160 books, 17,502 audio recordings, 660 periodicals, 10,031 DVDs and videos and access to 100 online databases, periodicals, and the Internet.
