Basketball season ended abruptly for the girls varsity basketball team this year with a heartbreaking loss to Southside in the quarter-finals of the Nassau County playoffs. Although this loss was tough on many of the varsity players, most of them will return next year and are determined to advance to the county finals! This is a tall order but not an unattainable one for the Blue Dragons. With just two graduating seniors, the girls will return five juniors and a very talented group of sophomores to start their march to the finals.
Playing down low in the post will be Nicolette McCreary and Kristen Stuart. Both girls contributed valuable time and rebounds this year. Kristen Stuart was named to the All-Conference Team by the Nassau Coaches Association. Filling in at the shooting guard position next year will be Julie Ballantyne and running the point will be Taylor Malings. Christina Rea rounds out the sophomore group and she can play both forward and guard positions and will be a valuable number three position.
With such returning talent, the Lady Dragons will be in Conference I again next year and perhaps for many years to come.
