This year the Island Trees Boys Varsity Basketball team has put in a whole new system that allows 12 to 13 players to compete in one game. This allows a shift of 3 to 5 players to sub in every minute.
Captain Ryan Tolan has been a three-year varsity starter and captain Tommy Hart is having an unbelievable season blocking shots. He has had games with 10 blocks and he is currently averaging 7 per game. The senior class is rounded off by Dylan Caragher, Dan Schulz, John Howard, John Thearle, Andy Kahl and Matt Passatempo. Dylan has had multiple 20-point games while tremendous floor leadership has been provided by Dan Schulz and John Howard. John Thearle and Matt are first year varsity players who are tremendous athletes, providing us with two good defensive and rebounding guards. Unfortunately, we lost Andy midway through conference play to injury.
The junior class is made up of Anthony Ciaramitaro, A .J. Mattia, Dan Bartlett, Adi Laho, Pat Reilly, James Vesely, Sean Ahluwalia and Anthony Wrightington. Anthony Ciaramitaro and James Vesely are two excellent athletes who usually play out in front of their press. Sean has done a great job shooting the three-point shot and as he becomes more comfortable, his play will continue to improve. Currently Danny Bartlett is one of the top three-point shooters on Long Island and also has had multiple 20 point games. The bench is rounded off by two of their hardest workers, Adi and Pat. Anthony just played in his first game against Division late in January after returning from a football injury.
Lone sophomore and point guard Andrew Willoughby has grown so much.
Even with a 3-5 record, the coaches are so proud of the players because at each game opponents' parents, coaches, etc. have said they were amazed at how hard Island Trees plays.
