The Levittown Community Council will present their 8th Annual Winter Fest on Saturday, Feb. 14, tying in a special Valentine's Day theme with this year's celebration.

A yearly event, the Winter Fest is a spirited day full of free family-oriented activities.

"There's no admission charge and every adult attending receives a free raffle ticket good for continuous raffles throughout the day," LCC founding member and Charter President Louise Cassano said.

There's something for everyone at this event, which various community organizations participate in.

"A cartoonist will be drawing caricatures, an amazing model train display will be presented by Nassau Lionel Operating Engineers, free books will be distributed by the Levittown Public Library and Gerald R. Claps Career and Technical Center's Police Science students will be providing identification kits," Cassano continued.

Nassau County Department of Consumer Affairs will also be on hand to distribute information and answer consumer questions, as will the Island Trees Library, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9592 and Yours Ours Mine Community Center.

Student dancers from the Mickey Lebrecht Dance Studio will be performing, as will the Island Trees High School Chorus. Additionally, for the first time, Mr. Steve the Scientist will perform interactive science demonstrations.

The Levittown Kiwanis Club will provide special entertainment for children.

"The Levittown Kiwanis Club is happy to provide free tattoos for the kids each year to add to the festivities," said Kiwanis President Susie Trenkle. "The Winter Fest is a fantastic way to beat the winter doldrums."

"Winter Festival is a very special event for the community and very meaningful to the Levittown Community Council since it was one of the first community events it sponsored," said LCC President Mauro Cassano. "We look forward, every year, to increasing the number of participants and community organizations who participate. Most of all, we enjoy the great spirit of the people who attend this event and seeing all of the smiling faces as they enjoy the day."

A food drive will also be held. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food and pantry items. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Panther Room of Levittown Memorial Education Center. For more information contact Lowell Wolf at 205-3582 or Mauro Cassano at 796-3392.
