Senior forward Tim Bradley's pair of 15-foot jump shots late in overtime lifted the MacArthur Boys Varsity Basketball team to a 55-53 win over Syosset on Jan. 14, which temporarily moved the Generals into a second-place tie in Conference AA-III. Bradley's lone four points came in the extra period as he helped MacArthur avoid squandering a 12-point fourth-quarter lead. Forward Kevin Roach scored a career-high 20 points and had 14 rebounds in the victory.
Still, the young Generals had their first subpar week and fell to 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the league. Two days before the Syosset win, MacArthur built a 15-point first-half lead yet lost at Bellmore JFK in overtime. Unbeaten Freeport took a three-game lead over the Generals for the lone postseason berth from AA-III.
MacArthur next plays host to Mepham on Jan. 23. Its other remaining home games are Feb. 4 against Bellmore JFK and Senior Night on Feb. 9 against Calhoun, all at 7:15 p.m.
