Lauren E. Davis of Levittown suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a car while she was walking across Hempstead Turnpike at Loring Road on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
According to the Homicide Squad of the Nassau County Police Department, Davis was struck at 10:51 p.m. by a 1993 Mercury operated by Olmeldo Sepulveda, 60, of Levittown which was traveling eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike. Davis was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
Davis, 18, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on Jan.1.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Administration of Levittown Schools Darlene Rhatigan, Davis was a Division Avenue High School student.
"She was a lovely and vibrant young woman who was much loved by her family and friends and will be sorely missed at Division," Principal Kathleen Valentino said.
Police stated that a safety check of the vehicle was conducted at the scene with satisfactory results. There did not appear to be any criminality and the investigation will continue.
