The fall 2008 sports season at Division Avenue High School has a new addition. You may have noticed on the track and on the roads the Division Avenue High School Cross Country team. They are a group of student-athletes that are getting the opportunity to shine after being combined for many years with MacArthur as a Levittown District team.
The squad is led by senior T.J. Speicher, who this season set a school record in the 5K (3.1 miles) distance with an impressive time of 17:28. T.J. as well as many of his team members have been determined to make a name for themselves this season as the competitions takes them to the treacherous trails at Sunken Meadow State Park. They have competed in several invitational meets there with impressive showings by the entire team. The conference meets are held at the challenging and scenic Bethpage State Park.
The varsity squad is rounded out by Nick Turk, Keith Kerwin, Mike Ruane, Conner McCauley, Kevin Judge, Chris Metzger, and James Reis. Running for the girls cross country team is Jennifer Addamo and Danielle DeVito as they look to blaze a new trail of determination and dedication.
The cross country team is also developing a strong program on the Junior Varsity level with key runners Paul Addamo, Mike Finkelstein, Alex Bossert, Tom Kim, and John Calzadilla. The entire squad is committed to the goal of making Division Avenue Cross Country one of the elite running programs in Nassau County. The team is coached by Division Avenue Business Teacher John Reynolds.
