The Levittown and Island Trees school budget votes and trustee elections were held on May 20 at various local schools.

The Levittown Public Schools budget for the 2008/09 school year of $178,288,762 passed in a 2,036 to 1,942 vote. The tax levy increase is 3.58 percent.

There were two incumbents and six challengers running for three available trustee positions on the Levittown Board of Education. The incumbents, John Garvey and Diane Shapiro are vying against Roseanne Gullans, Richard Gutowitz, Michael Pappas, Peter Porrazzo, Kimberly Smith and James Ward. Residents elected Michael Pappas, James Ward and Peter Porrazzo. Their three-year terms will begin in July.

The results were reported by District Clerk Elizabeth Appelbaum and are as follows: Michael Pappas - 2,108 votes, James Ward - 1,496 votes, Peter Porrazzo - 1,465 votes, Diane Shapiro - 1,447 votes, Roseanne Gullans - 1,199 votes, John Garvey - 990 votes, Kimberly Smith - 958 votes and Richard Gutowitz - 691 votes.

Residents passed the Island Trees Public Schools budget of $54,705,585 for the 2008-09 school year in a 699 to 315 vote. The 2008/09 tax levy represents a 2.60 percent increase.

Residents also elected incumbents Patricia Mahon, Kenneth Rochon and Robert Condela to the board. Rochon and Condela ran unopposed.

The results were reported by Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Administration Salvatore Carambia and are as follows: Kenneth Rochon - 793 votes, Robert Condela - 667 votes, Patria Mahon - 544 votes and Kim McDonough - 481 votes.
