The Division Avenue High School Baseball Team is currently 3-2 in League play and 5-2 overall. Division is off to a good start this season in the highly competitive ability-based Leagues. Division started the season with two non- league victories over Valley Steam South, 5-0 and Valley Steam North, 10-0. Both games had dominant pitching performances from Senior Paul Bischoff and Junior Kevin Chenicek. In the Valley Steam South game, Paul Bischoff went six innings allowing only four hits while striking out nine batters to open the season. Paul also helped himself at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. In the second Non-League game against Valley Steam North, Junior Kevin Chenicek dominated the North hitters by pitching a no hitter for six innings while striking out 10 batters. The offense was lead by Bryan Grubb who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Senior Matt Schneider went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Kevin Chenicek also went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

Division then began their league crossover games in which the team went 3-2. In the first game against Glen Cove, Paul Bischoff led the Dragons to a 5-0 win. Paul pitched a complete game allowing only five hits while striking out 10 batters. Senior Matt Schneider continued his hot hitting going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Junior catcher Mike Fama placed a perfect squeeze bunt in the fourth inning to expand the lead to 5-0. The infield combination of seniors Bryan Grubb (SS) and Stephen MacNamara (2B) turned a textbook double play to kill a Glen Cove rally in the fourth inning. In the next game, the Dragons lost to a solid Bethpage team with a score of 7-3. Division allowed seven runs in the first inning off of four errors and hit batter. After the first inning, the pitching staff allowed only one hit. The offense was limited to only three hits. Division's next game was a loss to defending County Champion Island Trees by the score of 7-4. In the fourth inning with Island Trees leading 3-0, Division had bases loaded with no outs and came away with only one run.

After losing two games in a row, the Blue Dragons bounced back by winning two close games over North Shore, 1-0 and Plainedge, 3-1; both teams are considered two of the best teams in the county. In the North Shore, game Paul Bischoff continued his dominate pitching by shutting down a good hitting team. Paul threw a complete game giving up three hits while striking out nine batters. Division scored the only run on an infield error in the sixth inning. Division then followed up by beating Plainedge 3-1. Junior Kevin Chenicek had a no-hitter going until the fifth inning giving up a lead off double. However, he battled back to throw a complete four-hit game against one of the better offensive teams in the county. With the scored tied in the fifth inning Senior Bryan Herold's base hit scored Kevin Chenicek to give Division a 2-1 lead. Senior Bryan Grubb followed up with his own RBI single to expand the lead to 3-1. Junior catcher Mike Fama made the defensive play of the game by throwing out a runner as Plainedge tried to steal second with two outs and a man at third base in the top of the seventh inning to end the game. Division will meet Garden City at home on April 21 and 24. Both games will start at noon.
