On Tuesday, April 8, residents voted to pass the 2008/09 Levittown Public Library budget.

The budget vote tally was 230 yes votes to 80 no votes.

Incumbent Margaret Santer defeated challenger Kathleen Snedecor-Rotunno, 242 votes to 87 votes. Santer will serve another five-year term.

The total tax levy amount for the 2008-09 year is $6,234,448, which represents a $290,314 increase over the previous year. The total annual average of library tax per household is $362.32, compared to $345.45 last year. This is an average difference of $16.87 per household.

Residents also voted to pass the 2008/09 Island Trees Public Library Budget.

The budget vote tally was 133 yes votes to 65 no votes.

The incumbent, Ann Harris and challengers Daniel Marrone and Barbara Auerbach, were this year's trustee candidates. Auerbach received 23 votes, while Marrone and Harris were tied with 97 votes each. There will be a run-off election, with the date to be determined. The winner will serve a five-year term, beginning in July 2008.

The total tax levy amount for 2008/09 is $1,082,530 which represents a $29,330, or 2.9 percent, increase over the previous year.
