Long Island South Central Immediate Past Lieutenant Governor Sue Martin (center) presents a certificate denoting the Levittown Kiwanis Club's Distinguished status to Past Secretary Lisa-Jean Santer and Immediate Past President Peter Ray.

Last month eight members of the Levittown Kiwanis Club traveled to Hudson Valley to attend the New York District Kiwanis Mid-Winter Conference. The conference included forums, educational programs and a celebration of past accomplishments. At the conference it was announced that the Levittown Kiwanis Club received distinguished status for the 2006-2007 year. In order to receive the distinguished designation clubs must meet numerous criteria including sponsoring and fulfilling their responsibilities to a sponsored organization or program (KKids, Builders Club, Key Club, Circle K, Aktion Club and Kiwanis Junior); participating in the Young Children: Priority One program; being represented at both the mid-year conference and District convention; and having a net gain in membership of at least one member by the end of the administrative year. The club received a distinguished club banner patch, a distinguished lapel button for the president, Peter Ray and secretary, Lisa-Jean Santer acknowledging this achievement. This distinguished status has become a tradition for the Levittown Kiwanis Club, having achieved this for approximately a decade.
As of Jan. 1, the Levittown Kiwanis Club has changed its meeting schedule from every Thursday to the second and fourth Thursdays of every month. The Levittown Kiwanis Club is a very active part of our local community. Levittown Kiwanis hosts food drives, sends underprivileged children to camp, gives scholarships, sponsors community events and more. If you are interested in learning more about this philanthropic organization and the good works the club does come to a meeting. Guests are welcome to attend. Levittown Kiwanis meets the second and fourth Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at La Focaccia Restaurant, 70 East Village Green, Levittown. Telephone: 796-4461. For more information, contact President Susie Trenkle at 804-8906.
