January was a sad month for the Levittown Kiwanis Club. Two active members and a former member passed away in the last several weeks.
Bob Waller was a member of the club since 1991. He passed away on January 18th. Bob and his wife Helen, also a member of the Levittown Kiwanis Club, were known for their generosity and humor. The club's thoughts and prayers remain with Helen and the rest of the Waller family.
Geoffrey Cross joined the Levittown Kiwanis Club in 2005. He passed away on Jan. 26. Though he wasn't a member for very long, he will be missed by the club.
Danny Cookston was a former member of the Levittown Kiwanis Club who died on January 11th. Though he transferred from the Levittown Kiwanis Club to the Town Hall Kiwanis Club many years ago, Danny still was a familiar face at many Levittown Kiwanis events, including the annual 5K run.
The club extends its sympathy to all three families.
The Levittown Kiwanis Club will be holding a special meeting on Feb. 7. At that meeting members of the newly chartered Kiwanis Club of the Ukraine will be coming to visit to see how an American Kiwanis Club runs its meeting. It will also be a wonderful opportunity for Levittown members to learn about how meetings are run outside our country.
As of Jan. 1, the Levittown Kiwanis Club has changed its meeting schedule from every Thursday to the second and fourth Thursdays of every month. This is a step that many other Kiwanis Clubs in the area have already taken and found to be successful.
The Levittown Kiwanis Club is a very active part of our local community. Levittown Kiwanis hosts food drives, sends underprivileged children to camp, gives scholarships, sponsors community events and more. If you are interested in learning more about this philanthropic organization and the good works the club does come to a meeting. Guests are welcome to attend. Levittown Kiwanis meets the second and fourth Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at La Focaccia Restaurant, 70 East Village Green, Levittown, NY 11756, Telephone: 796-4461.
