The Levittown Property Owners Association met on Dec. 11, 2007 with President Jim Morrow presiding.
The minutes of the previous meeting on Nov. 13 were discussed by members who felt the figures quoted by Dr. Sirois in the flier he distributed on the EXCEL Bond vote were misleading. The bond was approved by voters two days after the November meeting.
President Morrow discussed the MAC Heating Company's special arrangements for LPOA members. LPOA members and members of other organizations in the community will be serviced by MAC with provisions for a cap price per gallon of $2.99 on home heating oil, plus a free service contract for those who participated in its program before October 2007. Those who joined MAC's program after October can still get the cap price of $2.99 per gallon, but would be charged $150 for a year's service contract this year; however, next year there would be no charge for the service contract if they continued as LPOA members. The service contract charge for this year (for late-joining members) is necessary because of the date the company buys its supply inventory in October. Cap prices on home heating oil may change yearly as market prices vary.
The cap per gallon figures from other companies range considerably above MAC's, a company located in Levittown and now serving many Levittown customers. It is a 24-7 company, and serves heating and air-conditioning needs and maintenance, pool heaters, and installations.
Vice President Andy Booth brought up the issue of Town of Hempstead residential swimming pool regulations which are confusing for many residents. He has discussed the issue with Town Councilman Gary Hudes who will provide us with further information we hope can clarify the requirements for permits and other regulations for pools/fences. Andy then introduced a motion, seconded by member Gary Fisch and approved by the members present, to ask the Town of Hempstead to put the responsibility for getting the required permits on the company installing a pool and/or fences needed by them.
It was agreed that President Morrow and member Tom Caro would attend the Town of Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals hearing scheduled for Dec. 15, to represent the LPOA's position regarding the Israel Community Center's re-building plans.
The LPOA will be meeting on the usual second Tuesday of the month at the LMEC (Levittown Memorial Education Center) auditorium from January 2008 through June 2008 due to library renovations. The next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 8, at this location. Parking is on the west side of the building.
