The Levittown Property Owners Association met on Nov. 13 with Vice President Andy Booth presiding in the absence of President Jim Morrow.
We were pleased to have Levittown Schools Superintendent Dr. Herman A. Sirois drop by for a brief visit to discuss the (Nov. 15) EXCEL Bond vote. He distributed a flier describing this New York State building aid for school districts. It enables districts to add improvements and expansions as needed which must be approved by the districts' voters through a bond issue. According to the flier, "Levittown is authorized to receive as much as $7,300,000 through the EXCEL program." Dr. Sirois said that a "yes" vote "will not require any additional cost to the Levittown taxpayer and will not affect the District's tax levy in the future." A "no" vote would mean any capital improvements in the future will be paid for by tax dollars in the regular school budget. Seven specific projects were listed, including additional classrooms, new roofing, energy efficient windows at one high school and air conditioning for high school and middle school auditoriums. The projects can go forward; some can be completed immediately with bond aid. Member Gary Fisch, a former school board member, gave a thumb's up approval for the bond issue as it will support needed improvements without local tax increases. The flier on the EXCEL Bond issue distributed by Dr. Sirois was mailed recently to homeowners.
The next item on the agenda concerned the new meeting place for the LPOA monthly general meetings. We will be meeting in the auditorium of the Levittown Memorial Education Center (LMEC) at 150 Abbey Lane, Levittown from January 2008 - June 2008 at the usual 7:30 p.m., the second Tuesday of the month. The usual meeting place in the Levittown Public Library Community Room will be unavailable before June 2008 due to renovations in the library which will increase meeting facilities. We will be notified when the library will again be available.
Beginning in January 2008, we will meet at the Levittown Memorial Education Center (LMEC) Auditorium at the same time.
