The Nassau County Coaches Association held its annual awards banquet this month and the Division Avenue High School girls took home a large number of awards. Receiving All-Conference honors were senior midfielder Jennifer O'Neill and junior sweeper Vanessa Pellegrino. The next award up the ladder is the All-Class award and the Lady Dragons had another two girls receive this honor; they were junior striker Kelly Surdo and senior stopper Courtney McDermott. The prestigious All-Nassau County Award was won by senior goalie Sara Sullivan.
Last, but certainly not least, is the Scholar Athlete Award. This award is given to the senior with the highest overall grade-point average. This year's award went to Mary Kissane, who was ranked 12th overall in her class with upwards of close to a 96 percent GPA.
Mary was not the only girl with a fine scholastic record; in fact the Lady Dragons won the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Team Award. This is one of many years the girls have won this award, however, this year's team accomplished the feat with the highest overall average in the girls soccer program's history at Division Avenue High School.
