The Levittown Kiwanis Club will be holding its second Band Showcase at Levittown Hall on Saturday Nov. 10 beginning at 4:15 p.m. Ten local bands will be playing. Funds raised through this showcase will be used to help the club adopt local families in need for the holidays.

The club's first showcase was a huge success and led to a Levittown child with Cerebral Palsy obtaining the handicapped vehicle his family needed.

The cost to attend is $5. Those who bring a non-perishable food item will receive a raffle ticket with prizes being donated by the participating bands. Refreshments will be sold at the event.

For more information about the band showcase, call Peter Ray at 735-7768.

The Levittown Kiwanis Club sponsors four Key Clubs, the high school equivalent of Kiwanis: the Division Avenue High School Key Club, the MacArthur High School Key Club, the Gerald Claps Career and Technical Center Key Club and the Island Trees High School Key Club.

The Key Clubs are student run replicas of our Levittown Kiwanis Club. The students pay dues to join, elect local and national officers, meet on a weekly basis and go to a state convention. In addition, they decide on fundraisers to help numerous charities. They raise all their own money and put it back into the community. They perform a wonderful service for Levittown.

The Key Clubs are one of Levittown's Kiwanis Club's greatest assets. In recognition of Key Club Month, the Levittown Kiwanis Club has invited all four key clubs to not only attend the Kiwanis Club's meetings but to run the meeting. On Thursday, Nov. 1, Island Trees Key Club President Robin Kornstein presided over the meeting with members of her key club and the GC Tech Key Club present and participating in the Kiwanis Club's meeting. It was an extremely successful meeting and the Kiwanis Club is looking forward to the Nov. 8 meeting which will be run by the Division Avenue and MacArthur High School Key Clubs.

Terrific Kids is a program that provides schools with a tool to reward students for special achievements that may otherwise go unnoticed.
