Last year the Long Island South Central Division of Kiwanis established its first Aktion Club, a Kiwanis Club for mentally and physically challenged adults. It is known as the West Hempstead Court Aktion Club but it is sponsored by all 16 clubs in the division. Each month clubs from throughout the division do projects with the Aktion Club. On October 24th Levittown Kiwanians helped the Aktion Club members with a Kiwanis project seeking to get library cards into the hands of as many adults and children as possible and to encourage parents to read to their children. Levittown Kiwanians and Key Clubbers worked with the Aktion Club to put together "Library Packets" at this meeting. Each packet included information about why it is important to read to children, techniques for reading to children, challenges one might face and how to deal with those challenges, a children's book and a list of local libraries. Those packets will be distributed to new mothers and the pediatric floors at NUMC.

Key Clubbers from Division 6 have been collecting soda can flip tabs, Campbell Soup labels and General Mill box tops for the Levittown Kiwanis Club. At the club's Oct. 25 meeting Division 6 Lieutenant Governor Rickie Santer and Island Trees Key Club President Robin Kornstein presented a large bag of the items to Levittown Kiwanis Past President Tom Mawn who is the committee chair for this project. The box tops and soup labels go to St. Jude's Ranch for Children. When St. Jude's reaches 300,000 box tops and soup labels they are able to redeem them for a Chrysler Caravan. The soda tabs are now being donated to Mercy Hospital.

Anyone who would like to make a donation can call Club President Susie Trenkle at 804-8906.
