The Levittown firefighters fire prevention open house on Friday, Oct. 12, drew a very large crowd of residents and their children. Fire demonstrations, fire engine rides, free handouts, fire safety displays and Levittown's McDonald's "Ronald McDonald" held the interest of all the attendees. Levittown's "Cold Stone Creamery" gave out some of their delicious ice cream.
Many community organizations also took part, promoting community service and events, including The Historical Society, The Levittown 60th Anniversary Committee, both the Levittown and the Island Trees Public Libraries, Friend's Travel Ltd. and Statewide Realty.
All entries to the annual fire prevention poster contest were on display. The winners will be announced in a week. "Freddie the fire truck" interacted with the children. Attendees were able to go through the fire safety house and escape the "smoke" out a window and down a ladder. Children also took turns using a fire extinguisher to a "virtual reality" fire. Residents were provided with the opportunity to sign up their children for a child identification program.
The Chief's office expressed its appreciation to all who attended Fire Safety night and to all area merchants for supporting the annual Fire Prevention Journal & Holiday Shopping Guide. Fire prevention should be on everyone's mind every day, not just fire prevention week. The holiday season is fast approaching. Practice fire safety every day and keep the fire engines in the firehouse.
