According to the office of the Island Trees Superintendent, at dismissal time on Thursday, Sept. 27, a first grade parent from the Stokes School reported that she witnessed a man with a shopping cart exposing himself to two teenage girls at the intersection of Martin Street and Cardinal Road.
"After she reported this incident to Mrs. Newman, principal of Stokes School, the police were contacted, and they promptly investigated the incident and patrolled the area," a letter sent home to parents stated. "The man was described as a Hispanic male in his late 40s wearing blue pants with a white stripe down the leg of his pants."
Superintendent Jim Parla later told the Levittown Tribune that Mike Cronin, inspector of the 8th Precinct Police Department, said they have yet to find the man, however they are keeping vigilant and are asking students to do the same.
"We continuously talk to them [students] about safety procedures," Parla said.
Then on Friday, Oct. 5 the superintendent sent another letter home to parents. Two girls reported that the previous day, Oct. 4, at approximately 4 p.m., they were followed by a man from Wantagh Avenue to the Target parking lot. The letter stated that the girls went into Target and notified security. They left Target and arrived home safely and notified their parents. The parents called Mr. Kealy, Island Trees High School principal, who called the police and a report was filed. The man was described as Hispanic in his late 40s-early 50s, brown hair and approximately 5'10" with a heavyset build.
"The police are investigating both incidents," the Oct. 5 letter from Parla stated. "To my knowledge, it is not known if the same man was involved. This may be a good time to discuss with your child safety precautions when walking to and from school and through the neighborhood."
The Levittown Tribune contacted the Nassau County Police Department's Public Information Office and the 8th Precinct and was unable to obtain further information.
